Intralogistics Software WAMAS: Driving Force Behind SPAR’s Warehouse Logistics

SPAR ICS is the IT unit of the SPAR Austria Group and has overall responsibility for the IT landscape of the SPAR, INTERSPAR and SPAR European Shopping Centers (SES) brands. At the heart of the warehouse strategy is the introduction of the latest version of the WAMAS Warehouse Management System (WMS) by SPAR ICS at around 30 warehouse locations of the group in Italy, Austria, Croatia, Hungary, and Slovenia.

As WAMAS Enterprise WMS, the software solution is technologically designed to meet group-specific requirements and offers the corresponding depth of functionality. Different warehouse sizes, levels of automation, and assortment structures, as well as international locations with country-specific languages, place high demands on the software and must be taken into consideration for homogenization. At its core, the solution is a central software instance that is operated in two geo-redundant data centers, ensuring maximum reliability around the clock. All locations worldwide access this one central WMS application – and each user automatically works in their designated national language.

Program Management as the Key to Success

SSI SCHAFER relies on the concept of program management for implementation. Unlike a traditional software project, a software program coordinates a large number of projects over several years—often internationally, multilingually, and in different implementation phases.

This approach creates economies of scale: experience gained from completed sub-projects flows directly into the next implementations, conserving resources and reducing costs in the long term. This strategy is being successfully applied at SPAR and continuously refined.

Connectivity as a Success Factor

Another key feature of WAMAS Enterprise WMS is its seamless integration with upstream and downstream systems – including at the Klinča Sela logistics center. The connection to the ERP system, the integration of the material flow system, and the link to the transport management system (TMS) enable a consistent system for inventory management, order processing, and delivery control.

The result: coordinated goods provision in the warehouse, accelerated processes, and optimized delivery to the stores.
