2-step verification without downtime

The newly implemented 2-step verification process makes this retailer well prepared for future regulations. The goods are verified during receiving and once again during the picking process. Once product information is documented, each product is assigned to a specific storage area. And due to the nature of the pharmaceutical business, there are various zones designed for both fast and slow movers along with high security areas for controlled substances.

Step 1: Goods-in Verification

Both mixed and single case pallets are received, unwrapped, and separated using a depalletizing robot. Each package receives a barcode label for future tracking throughout the facility. Thanks to a software-optimized storage strategy, products are either stored in full cases and verified automatically or re-packed into system storage bins and verified at ergonomic goods-in stations before they are transported to a storage location.

Sequenced staging for goods-out shipping

Once the order picking process is complete, bins are closed, strapped, and labeled in the shipping preparation area. Bins are retrieved in sequence from the shipping buffer and transported to the palletizing robot. This is the same robot that depalletizes cartons of incoming pallets. To palletize the bins, the robot changes its gripper, and the load carrier is then wrapped with shrink-wrap and transported to the staging area for shipping.
