As the Resident Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring all activities relating to both the agreed PPM plan and reactive maintenance are carried out within the agreed time frame. You will report directly to the RM Engineering Manager who will issue all relevant PPM lists and reactive maintenance tasks.


Your main duties will be:

• Corrective maintenance task and troubleshooting on 1st level, responsible for reactive, proactive and preventative maintenance on automation equipment including roller and belt conveyors, Navette shuttles and lifts, Pick to Light Systems, sortation, Logimat storage systems and spiral conveyors.

• To conduct service and maintenance work, breakdowns and urgent repairs to support site.

• To ensure that Company procedures and standards are followed and maintained.

• To maintain good service and support to ensure customer satisfaction.

• To follow-up and resolve issues which are highlighted through the support organisation.

• Day to day maintenance of the fast-flowing material handling equipment.
• Delivery of key service elements such as planned preventative maintenance, fault rectification and fault eradication.
• Ensure all aspects of their working day are logged as per the agreed method
• Drive continuous improvement on site with their peers and others
• Fully interact with the customer in day to day activities.
• Ensure compliance with site CMMS
• Comply with Health and Safety legislation.
• Work within H&S guidelines and processes.
• To fully embrace and ensure delivery of all aspects of the clients business.
• Identify and resolve issues with the materials handling equipment, including identification of root causes, working proactively with the customer operations team.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and submit proposals.
• Effectively communicate throughout the SSI team and with the customer.

Physical Demands

The role is based at the Premier Farnell distribution centre at the Logic Leeds site. The RM Engineer may be required to travel to various SSI Schaefer sites for training or other purposes, and this may include international travel.
Working at Height is an essential requirement of the role.
Shift work as part of rotation for 24/5 coverage.

• C&G/ONC/HNC/BTEC or equivalent in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical or PLC Engineering.
• A recognised apprenticeship in an appropriate engineering discipline.
• Recognised cross training from Mechanical to Electrical Engineering of vice versa.
• PLC knowledge and experience is advantageous.
• Health and Safety Qualifications desirable.

• Experience of automated materials handling equipment.
• Ability to work at height.
• Good team working skills.
• Highly proficient verbal and written communication skills desirable.

• Working at height / rescue at height
• IPAF registered
• PASMA Trained

Environmental Conditions

Will be based at Premier Farnell’s Logic Leeds distribution centre. This will have a clean and modern warehouse environment with complex automated machinery.
A requirement of the role is to achieve Aviation Security clearance, which will be funded by the company.
Environment conditions – ambient temperature.

You will work a pattern of morning shifts (06:00-14:00), afternoon shifts (14:00-22:00), and night shifts (22:00-06:00). The arrangement for Friday working on early and late shifts is slightly different as detailed below.


The RM team’s night shift runs for five nights per week, starting at 22:00 on Sunday and ending at 06:00 on Friday. The RM team’s early and late shifts run 06:00-14:00 and 14:00-22:00 respectively Monday to Friday with a minor variation on Friday as detailed below. On Monday to Thursday, the RM night shift team will support the final hour of operation from 22:00-23:00.


On Fridays, a member of the late shift team will support the last hour of operations at 22:00-23:00. This will be achieved by the team working flexibly to ensure continuous support over the whole day 06:00-23:00. The Engineering Manager will manage time taken off in lieu if engineers work additional hours to provide the required support.


Due to the nature of this position you may be required to work additional hours at short notice, should this be necessary to fulfil your responsibilities and our obligation to the customer.
