The SSI SCHAEFER Group is the world's leading solution provider of modular warehouse and logistics systems. The company employs around 10,500 people in around 70 operating companies worldwide and at seven production sites.

The Business Development Manager finds and nurtures potential project leads for the logistical solutions and products and equipment teams, and manages key account relationships. They will maintain good relationships with flagship project customers and identify avenues for regular lead generation.

To lead and manage the sales process for complex automation projects and contribute to the overall sales team revenue target(s) and achieve personal revenue target(s).

Customer Management
• The successful candidate will be working with leading online, retail, food and manufacturing companies in the UK from a supply-chain perspective
• Make initial contact with potential customers to see if they have ongoing requirements SSI may be able to fulfil
• Qualify cold marketing leads before sales and engineering resource is allocated
• Ongoing contact with key accounts including flagship projects, key customers and consultancy groups
• If project load increases sufficiently, there may be a need for the BDM to lead some sales projects


Lead Generation
• Identify projects which could be relevant for SSI, across automation and statics
• Generate good quality leads with consistent regularity
• Target and identify key market segments which SSI have a good offering and strong likelihood of developing further
• Identify major players within those key market sectors and best contacts within those organisations
• Make initial contact with key players in those companies. If there is no immediate need maintain relationship until a project develops
• Track and oversee various news outlets to stay on top of those companies looking to develop their supply chain network
• Understand SSI product and reference portfolio to have initial discussions with any potential clients
• Co-ordinate with sales to work out which customers and/or markets should be targeted
• Identify, develop and maintain relationships with key consultants within relevant sectors

• Qualify incoming leads and RFP before being passed on to sales team


Link Sales and Marketing

• Identify trade shows and exhibitions at which SSI should have a presence with a clearly identified business case
• Liaise with sales and marketing on how such shows should be run to maximise impact and leads
• Link with regional marketing to ensure strategies are being followed
• Devise marketing campaigns which can be implemented within the UK including products to push, publications and any other.

Leadership and Support

• Assist junior members when appropriate.
• Potentially develop this department further should it prove successful and require greater resource

• We have Systems and Procedures in place that cover how as a business, we deal with the management of Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety.

Education Background:
• Degree at 2:1 level or higher preferred.
• Some studies at GCSE or higher in business or similar preferred

Technical Experience / Key Skills:
• Background in business development
• Experience within warehousing, automation or logistics preferred.

Work from Home Contract
Frequent travel to other customer sites, and regular attendance at our Pury Hill office.
Full driving license essential

Full Time 37.50 hours per week – Monday to Thursday, 8.30 am to 16.45 and Friday 8.30 am to 15.30 with half an hour for lunch each day.
