An Agile Internal Material Flow with Technology for the Medical Device Industry
DKSH Thailand was looking to expand its storage capacity within its existing Medical Device Distribution Center (MDDC) in Rama III (Bangkok, Thailand). With limited space to work on, SSI SCHAEFER successfully re-designed the area with a smart semi-automated solution that optimizes footprint and improves its internal material flow agility.
Scalable Storage and Picking Solution Improves Pick Performance by Over 13%
The cornerstone of the solution is the SSI LOGIMAT® Vertical Lift Module, standing at a height of 10 meters. It offers an astonishing storage capacity for over 10,500 items. This dynamic system works according to the efficient goods-to-person principle. As a result, it optimizes the storage and retrieval processes and achieves an improvement in average throughput of more than 13% compared to the previous operation.
The Vertical Lift Module can be extended horizontally and vertically. This is possible by extending it to a height of up to 24 meters or by integrating additional Vertical Lift Modules. The scalable solution makes it possible for DKSH Thailand to expand its storage capacities at any time and ensure future security.
In combination with a putwall system - a shelving system for dividing and removing picked items - the overall solution is housed on a compact footprint of 70 m². The putwall minimizes the distances between storage and packing stations and optimizes order processing. Each bin location within the putwall system represents an individual customer order, with light indicators guiding pickers and ensuring accurate order consolidation.
Intelligent software that provides real-time visibility
The logistical processes, from storage to picking and packing for delivery, are systematically implemented using intelligent software that offers real-time transparency. With the aid of connect:IT, an intuitive and user-friendly application, the SSI LOGIMAT has been seamlessly integrated into existing systems. Real-time data synchronization provides a full overview of the warehouse stock at any time. This intelligent software is S/4 HANA-capable, can be adapted to future automation requirements and can be connected to other systems if required.
